Osteopathy Information
Osteopaths subscribe to the idea that a persons health is reflected in the bodys structure. The focus of an osteopathic treatment is to restore balance to the bodys motion and tissues, which will allow the inherent healing mechanisms to perform at their best. An osteopath
is trained to palpate (feel) subtle changes in a persons living anatomy that limit
these healing mechanisms. It is this fine sense of palpation that makes the
osteopath uniquely qualified to perform manual diagnosis and treatment.
Conditions Treated
Since the focus is in restoring the bodys healing capacity, virtually
any condition may be improved by osteopathic treatment of a
patient. Specific examples include:
Somatic pain: Back pain, Joint Pain, Sciatica, Headache,
Traumatic Injury, Fibromyalgia
Respiratory: Asthma, Allergies, Sinusitis
Dr. Shapiro treats hundreds of patients with the goal of helping them become
quickly pain free.
Training
Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.s) are fully licensed physician as are M.D.s. Both receive equivalent training in the use of medication and surgery. They share the same rights and privileges. The main difference in training is the additional instruction that D.O.s receive in osteopathic principles and practice.
